Congratulations Janie, our Volunteer Champion 2023

Congratulations Janie, our Social Enterprise Volunteer Champion 2023

Huge congratulations to Janie, our Tartan Workshop volunteer!
Janie has won the prestigious Social Enterprise Volunteer Champion Award 2023, at a ceremony held at the Scottish Parliament In October.

The Social Enterprise Scotland Awards celebrate the incredible work and impact of social enterprises across the country. Over the years GCP has been short-listed for and won a good few awards, including several Social Enterprise Scotland Awards. This year, our Volunteers have really done us proud, including Liz, our Inspiring Volunteer Award-winner.

Now Janie has won Volunteer Champion 2023! We would like to thank Janie for all her incredible work and the positive impact she has had. She thoroughly deserves the accolades.

Janie has volunteered at The Grassmarket Community Project for the last nine years. Initially, she worked in the café, Coffee Saints, but now also spends two days a week helping to run the Tartan Workshop.

Janie is very modest and says,

‘I really appreciate all the effort Catherine and Helene put in nominating me and I’m delighted to have the award which is dedicated to all the Tartan Team.’

Janie had no idea she was going to win and says she felt, ‘numb’ and had no memory of what she said when she accepted her award.  However, we can all enjoy her fabulous acceptance speech here Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2023 – YouTube (Janie’s part is at 1 hour 15 minutes).

We are so proud of Janie and her dedication to GCP, as we are proud of all our Volunteers. They bring so many skills, such fun and great support to the project – we couldn’t do it without you all!

We are currently looking for more super sewing volunteers in our Tartan Shop – if you think you have quality sewing skills and even a bit of spare time, please contact us.

As Janie says,

‘GCP is a fantastic place. Personally, it has had a huge positive impact on my life.’

Become a Volunteer

We would not be able to deliver the amazing support and services we provide to vulnerable people and social enterprise customers without our fantastic volunteers.

The volunteer commitment varies depending on the role but can be as little as two hours a month. All our volunteers receive ongoing support and have access to free training throughout the year.

There are lots of opportunities for individuals to participate and join in! Everyone is welcome.

A BIG THANK YOU

The Grassmarket Community Project relies on the time and commitment of our volunteers. The Volunteer Programme is possible thanks to the generosity of our customers, funders and donors. Our main funder for this area of our work is The Big Lottery Changing Lives programme and we thank them for their essential continued support.
