Custom wood signs, awards and furniture from our award-winning wood workshop

Every year, our wood workshop team create 100’s of bespoke custom wood awards and plaques for a range of commercial, government, third sector and community-based clients.
We also make bespoke hand crafted furniture for classrooms, places of worship, retail and office spaces, and for people’s homes and gardens.
Join the growing number of organisations choosing The Grassmarket Community Project Wood Workshop as the ethical and sustainable alternative to mainstream suppliers.
Working on a commission basis, our wood workshop is completely self-sustaining and supports our essential work. We recycle unwanted church pews, windfall trees and other wood into beautiful furniture and wooden objects.
Custom wood signs and awards

Choose from our popular range of handmade wood signs and awards, branded with your own image and message.
We regularly supply laser engraved and hand painted wooden plaques and awards from recycled wood to a range of organisations. Our clients include A Rocha UK Eco Church Awards, CAFOD, Edinburgh Architectural Association, Eco Congregation Ireland, NHS Scotland, Poverty Alliance, Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Financial Enterprise and YMCA Scotland.

Custom wood corporate gifts

Our corporate clients, including The Scottish Government, commission hand-crafted wooden gifts such as pens, clocks and quaichs from our wood workshop.
These unique, imaginative and ethically-sourced branded gifts are a great way for our clients to demonstrate their commitment to supporting their community.

Commission bespoke wood furniture

Commission bespoke wood furniture, hand-crafted from recycled and responsibly-sourced wood. Our expert team transforms unwanted church pews and other recycled wood for a great range of clients from City of Edinburgh Council to The Church of Scotland.
From desks, tables, counters, cabinets and chairs, to signage and notice boards, to school furniture, outdoor benches, church fonts, lecterns and café interiors. Each item is designed and built to the customer’s exact specification and we can offer a variety of different types of wood, many of which are no longer commercially available.
We’ve been doing this for many years and we’re good at what we do.
We have kitted out all sorts of spaces with our beautiful wood including children’s nurseries, office and retail spaces, places of worship and of course people’s homes and gardens.

Supporting employability
Grassmarket Furniture, formed in 2006, is one of the social enterprises in Grassmarket Community Project.
Every furniture sale helps us continue our good work. We believe every individual can make a worthwhile contribution to our community and wider society.
The woodwork team work with woodwork experts to learn valuable woodworking skills and gain practical work experience. Through placements and apprenticeships, vulnerable individuals increase their confidence and self-esteem, develop good work ethics, improve their social skills, reliability and resilience, and ultimately work towards further opportunities including formal qualifications and employment.
Working on a commission basis, our wood workshop is completely self-sustaining. We recycle unwanted church pews, windfall trees and other wood into beautiful furniture and wooden objects.
Every item is built to the customer’s exact specifications, and we can also advise on choice of wood and provide design concepts.
