OPPORTUNITY: Café Assistants – Coffee Saints
- Physically fit as you would be on your feet all day waiting tables.
- Can commit to at least on shift per week, 10/11am until 4:30pm
- Are confident in dealing with customers and are friendly and welcoming.
- Barista and or cash handling experience would be good, but not essential.
- Willing to work in all areas of the café- counter, floor, kitchen and KP area.
OPPORTUNITY: Open Door Meals Volunteer
Volunteers needed for Our Open Door Meals service which is targeted at people who are homeless, vulnerably housed or suffer from poverty or social exclusion. A Three-course, freshly prepared meal is served Every Wednesday.
Full training will be provided.
Tasks Involved
- Setting Up Tables
- Serving Meals
- Serving Tea/Coffee & Soft Drinks
- Engage with attendees
- Clearing up & doing dishes ect.
Essential Skills needed: Must be motivated, enthusiastic, reliable, friendly and work as part of a team.

OPPORTUNITY: Health & Wellbeing Volunteer
I’m looking for volunteers to engage in 1-1 support or in group work support for a health and wellbeing group currently running at the Grassmarket Community. The course is to develop and improve people’s wellbeing through learning different topics that will help them feel healthy and happy. Some learners who come to the group need assistance with literacy/ English language skills and have various physical/mental emotional health’s, learning difficulties and lack of training and education.
Depending on the volunteer’s experience/interests, there is an opportunity sometimes to become more involved in preparing work for the learners. Many learners lack confidence and volunteers provide a crucial role in supporting and encouraging learners. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in supporting members 1-1 work and also participate in group work.
Become a wellbeing volunteer and help empower a learner to reach their full potential to participate more fully in society.
Essential Skills needed: Must be motivated, enthusiastic, reliable, and trustworthy, organised about any task given to them. Also have excellent communication skills, patient, friendly and work in a team, especially with team group exercises.
Desirable skills: 1-1 and group work experience but not essential
When and Where

OPPORTUNITY: Walking Co – Leader Required
About the Role
You’ll help the Grassmarket Community Project team by co-leading walks within the city centre of Edinburgh or surrounding areas for a mixed ability group.
Full training will be provided. Volunteers must have ability to guide, support, lead and engage with people of mixed ability and must enjoy the company of people and walking.
Tasks Involved
- Keeping everyone safe
- Ensuring everyone stays together
- Following routes as agreed with staff
- Providing an interesting walk and fun experience
- Completing a simple evaluation short form (online or on paper)
When and Where
Weekends generally once per month.
Time Commitment
Roughly 4-5 hours pending on area

OPPORTUNITY: Volunteer Tartan Enterprise Assistants Required

Martha leads the Tartan Enterprise and will provide support.

OPPORTUNITY: Volunteer Car & Minibus Drivers Required
Hours & days required
Volunteer Drivers needed on an ad- hoc basis.
Commitment
A minimum of 5 days a year
Training
Ideally you will have your D1 (though this is not essential as we can hire smaller Minibuses)
We will pay for your MiDAS Minibus training (if you do not already posses) and your PVG disclosure.

No More than 3 penalty points on License
Must be reliable and dependable. Have compassion for others, good sense of health & safety and a commitment to supporting others

OPPORTUNITY: Volunteer Make & Mend Assistants Required
Hours & days required
Volunteer Make & Mend Assistant Tuesday 11am – 4pm
Commitment
As often as possible every Tuesday between 11am – 4pm
Training
A tutor leads the group and will provide support.
Key Qualities or Skills required
The most important skills for a Make & Mend volunteer are patience, empathy, a willingness to help and learn, ideally sewing skills but you can help support with making coffee, setting up and chatting with members. Starting ASAP.

Mondays 11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm & Thursdays 11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm

As often as possible every Monday & Thursdays
Training
Training will be provided on-site and will be on-going a PVG disclosure will be required.
Key Qualities or Skills required
You’ll help the Grassmarket Community Project team by assisting people with their computing skills. You must be confident in your own IT skills, exceptionally patient, and enjoy supporting people with a wide range of support and educational needs.
Tasks Involved
Ensure people use computers safely, Help people complete tasks – from basic how to use a mouse to emails to social media, internet browsing to basic office applications, Give individuals one-to-one support with their IT skills, Give the group or individuals tasks to help them develop their skills, Complete a simple quick evaluation form (online & on paper)
