In Our Hearts…

We sadly say goodbye to Agnes McKellar, one of our members, who passed away last Wednesday following a number of health issues. Agnes was much loved by members, volunteers and staff at the Project. She was our first Member to be on our Board as our Member Representative. She cooked for the West Highland Way group in 2019 every day for a week sometimes in horrific midges and weather. She travelled all over the UK with us – to London to visit high-class bed manufacturers using our Tartan, to Glasgow many times to sell and promote the project to people at conferences, to Mull for a week at the CAMAS centre and to Mercat House. She loved the coast, the West Coast in particular, her home as she came from Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. We took a group with her once to the Isle of Bute and she was so proud to show us her roots and this beautiful part of Scotland. Her love of the sea was so evident when she went to CAMAS – swimming in the sea in the most horrific weather with sheer delight !

Mostly she’ll be remembered as the person who saved our Tartan enterprise on more than one occasion. She was passionate about the Tartan social enterprise. She had a beautiful smile and an unmistakable deep laugh. She rarely if ever said no whenever something was needed or someone was needed – she was there for our project and our members. She will be hugely missed and never forgotten. Her contribution to the textiles social enterprise was huge. We are very grateful to her for sharing her skills and time with us over the years.

You can email your favourite memories and stories to [email protected] Who will happily shared them below and dont forget there will be a remembrance service for all those we have lost at Greyfriars Kirk once restrictions are lifted and in-person events are permitted. Our thoughts are with Agnes’ family, especially her grandchildren who she adored, and her friends, staff and volunteers at the Grassmarket Community Project who will be devastated.
