Culture Club – Tuesdays 4pm (after school/college)
ALL young people (16-30yrs) welcome
An informal, fun and welcoming get-together to celebrate and share our different cultures, languages and ideas.
The kettle is always on at Culture Club, a great way to make friends and break isolation after school or at the end of day.
Originally know as our Language Café, this popular group is now known as Culture Club. Derek King, our Youth Engagement & Learning Development Officer, explains why,
‘We changed the name of the group in case people thought the group was about verbs and grammar in different language. Culture Club is so much broader than that!’
Every week we explore and celebrate different cultures, languages, religions, and ways of living from around the world.
From cake to music to body art
Culture Club is fascinating, there’s always more to discover and learn. Recently, a group of Muslim women came in to talk to the group about their lives and demonstrated how they use henna.
Elissa really enjoyed having henna applied to her own hands,
‘You get to try new things and you can ask questions and learn about other people.’
Temi enjoys Culture Club too,
‘We learn about other places like different parts of the UK and Romania. We also chat and eat cake… My favourite bit is eating cake!’
