FILM: Norma Rae (1979)
May 6, 2019 @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm

We couldn’t resist programming this award-winning Sally Field vehicle for International Worker’s Day. Not only is it one of my personal favourite Hollywood films, it is also the original and the best in a sub-genre of films that includes the likes of Silkwood and Erin Broko-vich. Norma Rae (Sally Field) is a young North Carolinan working in a textile factory, who begins to unionise the workplace after conditions in the factory are shown to be having grave effects on her and her co-workers health. A stirring bit of political agit-prop with a strong human interest narrative, and a fabulous central performance. You’re all very welcome!
