The Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Its over for another year.

This must have been one of the noisiest ever! While attempts were made to have some silent fireworks others were deliberatly noisey attention grabbers. The nightly flypast was an unnecessary addition this year:

Email to Tattoo Office:

With the finale of the 2009 Tattoo keeping me awake for the last time this year I am urged to enquire; why are the fireworks deliberately noisy? Nightly displays have attractive colours without bangs until the last final explosion which comes at around 10.45pm when many working people and families are trying to get to sleep.

I would also like to register my objection to the nightly fly-over of the military jet and hope that next years event does not include this feature.

Response:

We were sorry to learn about you and your family being kept awake on account of the Tattoo's fireworks display.

While we always endeavour to keep noise levels down to the bare minimum, inevitably the audible and visual effects of fireworks do generate an attention-grabbing spectacle of sound and colour.

But we do operate in accordance with The Fireworks (Scotland) Regulations 2004 and have obtained local regulatory authority permission for fireworks to be released from Edinburgh Castle during August.

We regret the inconvenience our evening fireworks sequence causes some Edinburgh citizens, but do very much appreciate your, and their, patience during this particularly busy and animated period for Scotland's Festival City.

You may be interested to know that there will be no nightly fly-past next year.

Yours sincerely
