Film Festival Under The Stars

Its over - for this year at least!

It is essentially a great idea but very definately in the wrong place. Perhaps Princes Street Gardens (Ross Bandstand), Inverleith Park or The Meadows may have been more practical and less of a disturbance for those who live in and around the Grassmarket.

Feedback and reaction suggests that the volume when screening the movies was far too loud making it impossible for people to even talk and be heard in their own houses. Below is  ashort (7 seconds) clip to demonstrate volume (although you will need to have the volume up full on your PC to appreciate it).

It did not appear to be well attended possibly due to the unpredictable weather but a few hardy souls sat through some of the programme. It hardly seems worth it for the amount of distress caused to those overlooking the area.

Comment

This again is something imposed on local residents with no consultation.

We again have to rely on third party information despite assurances from Jane Bremnar, CEC's Senior Events Officer that her department would keep us informed of details of events.

We still do not know what this event will mean in terms of set up and dismantling equipment – and the consequences of these arrangements on local residents.

No doubt we will wake to the sounds of scaffolding being unloaded at 5 a.m. and be unable to get to sleep on the Sunday morning due to the noise of taking it down again. That is, if CEC and Unique Events do decide to take the giant screen down! Remember that there was a plan discussed last year at some meetings of having giant screens erected - it met with disapproval from locals but they will go ahead anyway.

Programme
