Summer Dancin'
Its over!
A local resident wrote: "The "Summer Dancin" event was the last straw. The Saturday was intolerable. NINE hours of amplified music was ludicrious. The Sunday was less offensive, however the break-down noise again was very intrusive. It seems that no matter how often we try to explain how noise echoes and reverberates around Grassmarket area, event planners continue to "pump up the volume"."
Once again this was anaother event imposed on local residents without consultation or official notification.
It is likely that The City of Edinburgh Council, Unique Events and DanceBase wanted to hide this from local residents given the adverse reactions received to previous events. As usual we have had to rely on third party information rather than direct from the horse's mouth. Indeed, despite previous assurances from Senior Events Co-ordinator, Jane Bremnar, that communications would improve, we have had nothing directly from her yet. Similarly local councillor Joanna Mowat has not offered us any details on this event.
No doubt it was discussed at the highly secretive Grassmarket Forum; an unrepresentative group chaired by Cllr Mowat. Meetings are unpublicised, no minutes are made available and by all accounts attendees are sworn to secrecy. Attendance is by invitation and if you object to anything you will not be invited back! - unless you are a trader.
But we are not traders so we will not be seen to have any rights to consulatation or prior information. Its all in the interests of boosting the local economy. These are the same publicans and restaurateurs that were content, and still are, to subject us to the stag & hen parties and the excessive drinking brigade.
The instigator in this event appears to be DanceBase who apparently do not want this event in their premises so they are intent on subjecting us to it whether we want it or not. as if the same event at Hogmany was not bad enough!
